Salvage (2009)
Short review: When a container washes ashore the residents of a sleepy cul-de-sac are plunged into violence, terror and paranoia. Ring fenced by the military a single mother must overcome all the odds to save her daughter. Most of the action in this UK indie horror takes place in just one house, and while it's a limited setting, it creates a claustrophobic atmosphere. The low budget is pretty obvious in "Salvage" - poor settings, bad lighting, non-existent art direction, and cheesy, yet far from awful special effects. Gore scenes were well-handled and, while the shocks are mostly cheap, the film delivers its fair share of scares. The cast was small, but the acting was decent and, thankfully, the characters were convincing enough. The desperate and terrified mother, who had to find her daughter at any costs was really well-played - the fear was written all over her face.. and you can feel that. However, the daughter was so unlikable and annoying, I didn't actually care whether she survived or not by the end. However, the worst bit of "Salvage" is the explanation they give you at the end, which was outright ridiculous.
