Tekken movie review (2010)

Tekken (2010)

Based on the popular video game, "Tekken" is lame, uninteresting and poorly-crafted martial arts flick, that falls in the same category as other terrible 'fighting' video game adaptations, such as "Street Fighter", "Mortal Kombat" and the more recent crap "Dragonball: Evolution". This dull, cheesy and surprisingly boring film is set in the same dark dystopian future we've seen in million other movies before. The poor lighting and cheap scenery make" Tekken" look even cheesier. The story is a hollow package that fails on so many levels - it's s predictable right from the start, completely shallow, rushed and filled with tired cliches. Also, during the whole movie you feel that the characters are totally out of place. The acting is atrocious. All the actors are bland and corny, with no exceptions, and they don't have any emotional resonance. The characters do not have any depth, being stereotypes at the most, but fitting perfectly in a scenario glued together from bad clichés. Each Tekken character in the game has signature moves and a certain fighting style, which the movie attempts show, but fails horribly. The fight sequences range from bad to just okay, which is really disappointing, since they're handled by world class fight choreographer and stunt man Cyril Rafelli. The action choreography is simply second-rate and the fights themselves are packed with frustratingly quick cuts and, unfortunately, they lack thrills, dynamic and style. The tournament itself looks ridiculous and completely anti-climatic - we have a bunch of stereotyped martial artists running around either in cool shiny outfits or wearing way too revealing slutty outfits. "Tekken" is yet another fiting video game movie, that fails to satisfy both, Tekken hardcore fans and regular martial arts fans, since the action is so poorly-handled, unexcitied and choppily-edited, that it's difficult to be enjoyed... as is the whole movie.
