Grown Ups movie review (2010)

Grown Ups (2010)

Short review: In this lame and silly summer comedy, Adam Sandler and comedians Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider play old school chums meeting at a resort to honor their deceased coach. This movie is more of the same Sandler with each character basically playing themselves with no real development at all. Also, "Grown Ups" never has any cohesiveness and always feels like a bunch of friends wrote a movie and invited more friends to help. While the film did contain a good deal of crude humor that will make most viewers laugh, many jokes simply fall flat due to hackneyed writing, amateurish directing, and mediocre acting. The plot has no substance whatsoever and the sentimental family-bonding moments are neither heartfelt nor cute. Salma Hayek, Maria Bello and the unbelievably hot daughters bouncing around in bikinis certainly eased the pain. The soundtrack did not help the movie either just because it was so dull. "Grown Ups" knows its formulaic, dumb and very dry, but they just want to give the audience a fun outing. Well, they did. It just wasn't that fun.
